(Front Choke Attack)

                        “Front Choke Attack” (“stiff fingers” the eyes, bear claw the throat, hand hook neck into face
                                                                 knee kick, “chin over” takedown & finish)
                                                               [alternate finish is a guillotine choke after the inside knee to face]


(Standing Forearm Choke From Behind)
                                                  (they have one arm around neck from behind pulling choke with
                                                    other arm tight)
                                                   
                                                  [immediately tuck chin and shrug shoulders to force arm over
                                                    chin and not under, very quickly two hands on one arm
                                                    (at wrist) while leaning forward and squatting deep to side.

                                                                   takedown and finish. [alternate ending is rolling fists lock to forearm
                                                                   blade with immediate hips drop and finishing off]

 [Knife Slash Attack]

                   "stepping slash attack [miss] with exaggerated 2nd follow up shuffle slash attack"  
                                      (step towards and outside with high outer forearm block to outer grasping block, step in
                                        again with elbow lock from under the arm  to fold knife hand backwards and down into  
                                        attacker’s body, “chin over” takedown and finish.) [alternate ending after folding arm
                                        stab is an inside face smashing knee to a guillotine choke]

[Knife Stab Attack]

                   "stepping stab attack [miss] with 2nd follow up shuffle/lunging stab attack"
                                      (outer knifehand block to wrist grab, step in and turn to lock elbow from over the arm

[Mid-Section Roundhouse Kick VS. Takedown To Knee Bar]

                                                Advanced Freestyle Work (watching same as red)

                                                Vagal Response [Purpose: gaining real world control of a potentially dangerous
                                                                                 situation…] IF REPEATED WARNING(S) TO STOP AND TO
                                                                                 LEAVE YOU ALONE DO NOT WORK… (very quickly step
                                                                                 towards an attacker and palm heel strike the forehead

Short Version:
I hold a second degree Dan in the style of Toushikan, which was awarded by Koncho Shigeki Umemoto on April 15th, 2010. I also hold a third degree Shogo (teaching) rank, which is called by title, Renshi. I have been involved with ActivStars' Martial Arts program for over 18 years (as of 2016.) I started as a “parent helper” and eventually years later, was asked to substitute a class for another instructor. After that, as they say, “the rest was history.” J

I teach in the Mesa area and hold great value in the practical application of the martial arts I teach. Toushikan as I teach it is a mixed or blended martial art style consisting of 5 separate disciplines: Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Hapkido, and Grappling/Ground Fighting.


Long Version:
My first-born son (Lincoln Everette) started as a 5 year old student in ActivStars' Martial Arts program. As of 2016 he is 23 years old and had proven himself as one of our top Black Belt Martial Art Instructors (for over 5 years, ) before moving on to greater things in his life. He is currently working for General Motors as a software developer. He graduated from ASU’s Poly Technic Campus (2015) debt free due to 2 academic scholarships, with a bachelors degree in Software Engineering, in the top 8 percent of his class. He is currently taking instruction in another Martial Arts style (American Kenpo under Master Pete Rodriguez,) seking another Black Belt. His hired personal fitness trainer is a professional compettitive bodybuilder who spent time playing in the NFL. In short, he continues to push the development of excellence in his everyday life. I attribute Lincoln’s personal success story to the way in which his Mother and I raised him and his involvement with ActivStars' Martial Arts Program. This program works!

My second-born child (Lindsey Marie) stared as a 4 year old student in ActivStars' Martial Arts program. Today she is over 21 years old (2016) and is a Black Belt assistant instructor (when available.) She is currently attending Mesa Community College through a qualified grant and in concurrent enrollment with ASU working in her fourth year towards becoming a NICU Nurse (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit Nurse.) I attribute Lindsey’s personal success story to the way in which her Mother and I have raised her and her involvement with ActivStars' Martial Arts program. This program works!

My third-born child (Seth Nathaniel) started as a 4 year old student in ActivStars' Martial Arts program. He is over 17 years of age (2016) and a Black Belt assistant instructor (when available) with ActivStars. He is currently a senior in the Varsity Marching Band at Gilbert High School and is currently on track to receive an academic scholarship when he graduates. I attribute Seth’s personal success story to the way in which his Mother and I have raised him and his involvement with ActivStars' Martial Arts program. This program works!

My fourth-born child (Dekota Logen) started as a 4 year old student in ActivStars'  Martial Arts program. He is over 13 years old (2016) and works diligently (with Mom's "help") pursuing academic excellence in Gilbert at Gilbert Junior High School. He is currently a red belt with brown stripe student (2016) training towards his brown belt, and ultimately, his own black belt one day. I attribute Dekota’s personal success story to the way in which his Mother and I have raised him and his involvement with ActivStars' Martial Arts program. This program works!

Finally, my wife of 28+ years (2016) (Penny) is currently a Brown Belt/Black Stripe. She earned her Brown Belt October 11th, 2015. Because of the amazing person she is and her involvement with ActivStars' Martial Arts Program, she decided to go to college after getting 4 children into the school system, to work towards receiving a degree to teach children in grade school. She did this while working full-time as a Mom, at a job, and attending school. I honestly do not know how she pulled it off. To this day, I can vividly recall many different times where she broke down crying because of how challenging (difficult) it was for her at times, while going through the expereinces of it all. She graduated with honors from University of Phoenix with her teaching degree in 2012. She is currently a fifth grade teacher in the Gilbert School District at Harris Elementary School. In part, I attribute Penny’s personal success story to her "warrior spirit," and her involvement with ActivStars' Martial Arts program. This program works!

As for me (Renshi Charles,) my primary passion in life is in being a “very old soul spiritual teacher,” and a "social engineer" for our rapidly changing world (2016.)  I have been actively involved with this since the age of 16 (I am currently 55 years of age as of 2016.) My secondary passion in life is teaching Martial Arts to students. Why? Because of how it can powerfully transform lives in positive and constructive ways, just has it has done with my own. Some of my most rewarding experiences are when I am able to integrate my first passion into my second one successfully. I do this in the most simple and powerful of ways, which are generally not known by almost all who know me personally.

One example of this, was (and still is) the driving force behind my “choices” homework, which is voluntary for students at white through green, but becomes mandatory at blue and above, or anyone over 16 years of chronological age. The ultimate goal of my “choices” homework is to raise students who learn to become competent at making good personal choices, as well as to learn who it is that is actually accountable and responsible for those choices being made…
