Leigh Riese


Sifu Leigh Riese currently assists Sifu Mark Stuever teaching at Casa Grande Boy's & Girl's club in Casa Grande, Arizona. He also substitutes, assists and works tournaments for ACTIVSTARS.

 Leigh has studied under Sifu Mark Steuver for almost 19 years in Chinese Kenpo Karate and has obtained the rank of 2ndDegree Black Belt. He is still studying and working on his belts, and teaching at the Institute of Self Defense in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Sifu Leigh received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts education from State University at Oswego, NY., and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Troy State University, Alabama.

He started his teaching at San Carlos Jr. HS also teaching through Easter Arizona College nights.

Having the desire to travel he and his wife Sue moved to Okinawa, Japan (Kubasaki HS, Department of Defense Dependent Schools {DoDDS}) teaching, and coaching freestyle wrestling and boys' volleyball. During their stay Sifu Riese helped win the Far Eastern Wrestling tournament three of the four years there.

Returning to education at Willis Jr. HS in Chandler, Sifu Riese taught, was department chairperson, and coached wrestling, and Girls' Volleyball. He was selected as "Teacher of the year" his third year at the school.

Still having the desire to travel Leigh and family moved to Giessen, Germany (DoDDS) to teach at a new high school. Along with teaching, he was department chairperson, assistant principal when needed, coached tennis, wrestling and assisted with track. During the eight years coaching wrestling his teams won six conference championships and two European titles, along with "Coach of the Year" for the 32 high schools.

Returning to the states Sifu Riese finished up his 30 years of teaching at "The Villa" in Toltec, Arizona. During his time there he was assistant principal, took students on trips sailing, camping, hiking, and other touring.

In earlier years between undergraduate work, Leigh served in Germany as a paratrooper, and in Vietnam where he was awarded two Bronze Star medals.
